Almost Family welcomes back Jeff Hephner in midseason premiere
Chicago Med and Chicago Fire alum Jeff Hephner is continuing his recurring role as Nick Cameron in this week’s Almost Family midseason premiere.
One Chicago may not be back tonight, but one of its fan favorites is. Jeff Hephner guest stars in tonight’s episode of the FOX drama Almost Family, continuing the role he started in November.
Jeff has been in the show’s last four episodes as Nick Cameron, the gymnastics coach who has a complicated history with Roxy Doyle (series regular Emily Osment). He’ll be back in this episode, as well as next Wednesday’s episode, too.
Fans still remember him fondly from his appearances as Jeff Clarke, first on Chicago Fire and then in the second season of Chicago Med. Clarke was last seen finishing up work at Med before going to a new hospital in Hawaii, and hasn’t been mentioned in the Chicago universe since.

But if you’ve had a chance to watch any of those episodes, you know that Nick is absolutely nothing like Jeff Clarke whatsoever—which is part of the appeal of checking Almost Family out.
There’s still more about him to be unraveled, and he’s not necessarily a character that you’ll root for, but because he’s played by Jeff Hephner you’ll enjoy watching him anyway.
The episode is called “Rehabilitated AF” and picks up with Roxy having emerged from a stint in rehab for her drug addiction, only to find out that while she was gone, Nick took over coaching her star gymnastics pupil.
Needless to say, she’s not happy, and the development is the catalyst for revealing more about their own past mentor-student relationship. It’s not a spoiler to say that something wasn’t quite above board there.
Will Roxy end up giving Nick his comeuppance in the end? Or is there more trouble ahead for both of them? You’ll have to watch Wednesday to see where the storyline goes next.
