Chicago PD alumna Sophia Bush has been cast in a recurring role in NBC’s This Is Us for the remainder of their fourth season.
Sophia Bush is heading back to NBC — but not for Chicago PD. Deadline reported on Saturday that Sophia has nabbed a recurring role on the hit NBC drama series This Is Us, with Bush set to recur during the remainder of the show’s fourth season.
This casting comes on the heels of her recurring role in the Disney Plus series Love, Simon, which she got a couple of months ago. Coincidentally, the aforementioned project is being produced by This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. In addition to Bush, This Is Us has also nabbed Pamela Adlon for a storyline in season 4.
According to Deadline, Sophia Bush’s storyline may involve Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley), but series creator Dan Fogelman declined to comment on just how involved her character may be. He did say that the storyline involving Kevin’s child will be partially resolved within the coming episodes, so it’s been speculated that Bush’s character is tied to the storyline.
The next three episodes of This Is Us will focus on the “Big 3” characters of Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown), Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz), and Kevin Pearson. Each character will have their own episode, but it’s unknown whether or not Bush’s character will be directly involved with the specific episode featuring Hartley’s character.
This role will mark Sophia Bush’s return to NBC since she bowed out of Chicago PD after four seasons as Detective Erin Lindsay. While her Love, Simon role was her first big return back to a series, this part will be her return to network television. Her other recent TV credits include guest spots on Jane the Virgin and Alex, Inc.
With her reputation in playing strong female characters, it will be interesting to see what kind of woman Sophia will portray in This Is Us. Regardless, it will be exciting for fans to see Bush back on NBC.
