Hailey’s choice

Voight named Darius as his informant, much to their dismay. The case would go to trial, and Darius would have to testify. Voight reassured him that most of the cases don’t make it trial, and that hopefully he wouldn’t be called. Even so, Hank told Darius that it would probably be best for him to get out of town.

Back at the house, Burgess triangulated Packer’s cell signal, and found him at the same warehouse the earlier meet was held. The rest of the team suited up to go and get these guys. Kevin took one offender down, who was not a cop. They continued to move, and found Jake Gibbs, Kelly Tyler, and Lieutenant Packer all dead at the scene.

Voight reported the news to Crawford, saying it was probably an ambush. He assumed Darius was behind it, that he either ordered the hits or offed them himself. Regardless, Voight was mad because he didn’t want to name names in the first place.

Packer, Tyler, and Gibbs would be hailed as heroes, according to the story Crawford would tell anyone that asked. Darius? He was cut loose, and when Voight told Upton, they were both enraged. Hank wanted to try and let it go, but Hailey said that they got screwed over. The only one who supposedly walked away from it unscathed? Darius.

Hank told Darius the good news of him being a free man, but tried to be slick about nailing Darius in Packer, Tyler, and Gibbs’ murders. Darius told Hank that he could hold his own, despite Hank’s warnings about not having any more protection.

Meanwhile, back at the 21st, Hailey looked at the guns that were seized, and asked Kevin who they belonged to. She was then seen in a car, before she went outside to talk with the friends of the boy who got killed at the warehouse. She told them that the guy who got their friend killed was working with the police.

After she was satisfied with her conversation, Hailey saw Jay, who had followed her to the alleyway. He tried to ask her what the hell she was doing there, but she brushed him off. He kept pushing and told her that she’s told him 20 different times not to get too close. Now, he was the one telling her the same thing.

The next scene cut over to Darius Walker, who was killed in a particularly gruesome manner.  Voight met with Upton and told her that she should’ve known those gang bangers would’ve tuned Darius up. Hailey’s response? She learned from the best. Voight said that he did what he did because he could; he turned off a part of him a long time ago. But for Hailey, it would eat her alive.

“Have a little faith Sarge, I’ll get there,” she said. “That’s what I’m afraid of,” he replied. If Hank was worried, should Hailey watch her back? Or has she already fallen too far down the rabbit hole?
