What should fans look for in this week’s episode of Chicago Med? Get ready for “Pain Is for the Living” with our Chicago Med season 5, episode 13 preview.

Tonight’s episode of Chicago Med deals with a child causing chaos within the emergency department, and the medical team tries to figure out the reason behind the madness before he harms himself or someone else.

“Pain Is for the Living” will bring doctors Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) together, along with Nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) as they meet and treat a young boy named Jamie. Jamie’s younger brother was also brought in to the hospital – the twist? Jamie’s the one responsible for injuring his brother.

While Ethan, Daniel, and April tend to the brothers, Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) is curious about a mother who entered the hospital. Now, it’s unclear whether or not the mother is connected to the two boys mentioned above, but regardless, something about the woman doesn’t sit right with Natalie.

Call it mother’s intuition, or maybe just a good old-fashioned hunch, either way, Natalie makes it her mission to figure out what’s going on. The promotional photos show Natalie around Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett), so perhaps Maggie assists her in this investigation.

Usually wherever Natalie goes, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is – but not this time, as we assume he’s still dealing with the ramifications of his off-the-books clinic. While Will told his friend he no longer wanted to be a part of it, he’s not one to walk away from things unscathed, much to fans’ dismay.

Interestingly enough, the new doctor that was cast in this back half of season 5 was first seen at Will’s clinic. If she does show up again – and we suspect she will – could she somehow be involved in Will’s storyline surrounding the clinic and his fight with the opioid crisis as the season progresses?

Guess we’ll have to wait and see how everything plays out when “Pain Is for the Living” airs tonight on NBC.
