What should fans look for in this week’s episode of Chicago Fire? Get ready for Off The Grid with our Chicago Fire season 8, episode 15 preview.

Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire kicks off the two-hour crossover where Firehouse 51 teams up with members of Chicago PD‘s Intelligence Unit to solve a massive case.

“Off The Grid” will feature Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) playing detective with former officer Sean Roman (special guest star Brian Geraghty), as they investigate the opioid epidemic in Chicago. The pair haven’t worked together before, so it’ll be interesting for fans to see these characters interact with one another on-screen.

The opioid crisis is something that has been covered extensively in the news over the last year, so it’s no surprise that Chicago Fire would tackle the subject. The One Chicago franchise has used “ripped from the headlines” type stories before, including during a previous crossover (in the Chicago PD episode “Deathtrap”).

Knowing Dick Wolf, there’s bound to be an exciting twist awaiting fans at some point in “Off the Grid,” especially since there has to be something that pulls the story into Chicago PD.

While Severide is busy on the job, Captain Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) will contend with a personal issue in his episode, and it’s not even his! Casey tries to be there for Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), who’s dealing with the discovery of her birth mother.

That storyline was introduced a couple episodes back, but in “Shut It Down” it became more prominent for both Brett and Casey when Sylvie’s mom sent her a letter. Brett originally told him to throw it out, but later regretted that decision. Thankfully, Casey saved the letter for her, and she was relieved that he stuck around while she opened the note.

Now that Brett knows more about her birth mother, will she be interested in finding her? According to NBC‘s official synopsis for this episode, Sylvie’s mom offers to meet with her, and Brett is thinking about it. Being the upstanding guy he is, Casey will more than likely offer his advice, and Sylvie will lean on him for support. Could this be a turning point for Brett and Casey shippers?
