Chicago Fire has hinted at the development of a new romance within Firehouse 51 over the last season. Here are a few reasons why a relationship between Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett could work out.

It wouldn’t be Chicago Fire without some in-house romance. You have Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd, not to mention Chief Wallace Boden and his wife, Donna who met through a call; so it makes sense that other characters get some love in their life too.

A couple of those characters happen to be Captain Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), who have grown closer over the latest season of Chicago Fire. While it was a shock to Dawsey and Brettonio fans, there are some who wouldn’t mind seeing Brettsey become official. Here are a few reasons why a relationship between Brett and Casey could work out.

1. They had a friendship first.

Both Matt and Sylvie became friends through Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) all the way back in Season 3. Sylvie’s character started out as a replacement for Leslie Shay (Lauren German), who died in the Season 2 finale. Sylvie was partnered up with Gabby, and at the same time Dawsey’s relationship was growing stronger. The three of them even spent some time together after Sylvie was having issues with Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda).

While Matt and Sylvie didn’t share a ton of scenes together early on, the times they did interact helped establish a baseline for a friendship to be forged. A few examples of this would be when Sylvie tended to Matt when he and Jimmy Borrelli (Steven R. McQueen) were hosed down after being exposed to hazardous materials; or when Matt made sure Sylvie was okay after she and Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett) were abducted. These small moments would prove to be useful as Chicago Fire continued to move through the seasons.
