Sophia Bush pilot Good Sam casts Jason Isaacs as her father
Chicago PD veteran Sophia Bush has found her TV father and he’s a legend. Jason Isaacs will co-star alongside Bush in the CBS medical drama Good Sam.
If Chicago PD fans needed another reason to get excited about Sophia Bush‘s new pilot, the latest Good Sam casting should provide plenty of buzz.
Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery, the Harry Potter film series, the NBC crime drama Awake) joined the series as its male lead on Monday, per a report from Deadline.
That means he’ll be playing the father of Bush’s character, cardiothoracic surgeon Sam Griffith.

Isaacs’ character Dr. Paul Griffith is the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the as-yet-unnamed hospital, supervising a team that includes his daughter Sam. He’s described as both “brilliant” and “arrogant.”
However, when circumstances put Paul into a coma, Sam takes over his position as head of the department. And when he reawakens, he finds himself working as his daughter’s subordinate. While Paul tries to adjust to no longer being in control, Sam will fight to keep the new position that she inherited rather than give it back.

Jason Isaacs should be a fantastic co-star for Sophia Bush. He’s an incredible actor, who gave a brilliant performance as gangster Michael Caffee in Showtime‘s original series Brotherhood and was also a standout in Star Trek: Discovery and the BBC drama The State Within.
Though the two have never worked together before, they both have strong screen presence, so they should make a formidable team—which is important because that’s the dynamic that this whole potential series is going to rest on. If we don’t care about the power struggle (and presumed relationship issues) between Sam and her father, then this is just another medical drama.
Chicago Med fans may also be amused that this series will focus on cardiothoracic surgeons, since Med spent four years having a cardiothoracic surgeon as a main character (Colin Donnell‘s Dr. Connor Rhodes).
Casting a heavyweight like Jason Isaacs should hopefully increase Good Sam‘s chances of being picked up by CBS, but One Chicago Center will keep fans posted about further developments with the pilot.
