April and Will

Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is in the lobby when Dr. Hannah Asher (recurring guest star Jessy Schram) returns to work, which means he also hears an unnecessary pithy remark from one of the nurses about her. Seriously, Chicago Med has some incredibly catty and unprofessional nurses. “Nobody asked you,” Will snaps at her, and good for him.

When April collapses in the middle of the ED, it’s Will who is there to attend to her. She tells him about the hormone therapy she’s been undergoing for her in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments, and his response is to ask for Asher to be paged to personally attend to April.

Asher informs April (and the Chicago Med audience) that April’s pain is related to Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation Syndrome, which in turn is related to her IVF. After Choi gives Will a disapproving look for letting Asher treat April, Will tries to apologize to Asher, who says that “what you did was a betrayal.” Will doesn’t see it that way; he tells her that he’d do the same thing over again.

Some time later, Chicago Med circles back to Asher telling April that everything seems to be better now. “I’m glad you’re back,” April tells Asher, while we wonder where that comment came from since the two didn’t seem to know each other that well. When Asher is gone, April admits where the problem came from: she had doubled up on her meds because she didn’t want the second round of IVF to fail and disappoint Choi again.

“You have nothing to make up for,” Choi assures April. But then, in tears, she tells him about her kiss with Marcel and Choi goes stone-faced. Even though April says it was her fault, he storms out of the treatment room, hunts down Marcel, and initiates a physical confrontation in the middle of the hospital. Luckily, Choi’s attempt at goading Marcel into a fight is broken up by Platt.

As for Will, Asher has another personality change again. As he leaves the hospital, she comes up to him and admits that he was right to turn her in. “You got plans tonight?” he asks, and invites her to Maggie and Ben’s wedding. And so Chicago Med comes semi-full circle, though it doesn’t feel quite complete, between the characters missing and almost everybody’s personal lives once again becoming a mess.
