Chicago Med is teasing a Natalie and Crockett romance
Is Chicago Med making Crockett Marcel the object of someone else’s desire? New comments hint that Natalie Manning might take a romantic interest in him.
April Sexton’s flirtation with Dr. Crockett Marcel might have officially ended on last night’s Chicago Med, but Dr. Natalie Manning could be hooking up with him soon.
Executive producer and co-showrunner Andrew Schneider recently told TVLine that the dynamic between Crockett (Dominic Rains) and Natalie (Torrey DeVitto) will be a significant part of the rest of Chicago Med season 5, and it doesn’t sound platonic.
Describing Crockett and Natalie as “progressing,” he added that “will be part of the rest of the season—their relationship and what it might or might not turn into.”

It’s definitely a vague statement, but there’s only two things that the characters’ relationship could “turn into.” They already work together professionally, so they’ll either end up romantically involved or end up bitter enemies, and given that Chicago Med emphasizes romance, the odds are good that Schneider and company will at least tease a Natalie and Crockett hook-up.

After all, Natalie’s ex-fiancee Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is currently infatuated with Dr. Hannah Asher (recurring guest star Jessy Schram). While the two are not officially dating, they’ve slept together once and Will brought Hannah as his date to Maggie Lockwood’s (Marlyne Barrett) wedding.
And asked in the same conversation if Will and Natalie might reconcile, Schneider said only “whether [their feelings] are able to blossom again is another issue.”
So Manstead doesn’t appear to be on tap in the remaining episodes—and Chicago Med never likes to let anyone, especially Natalie, stay single for long.
But having her sleep with Crockett? That sounds like it could be a disaster. For one, Crockett is the same character who’s spent most of the season attracted to April, and we’re not sure that’s totally tied up, since Chicago Med showed us April and Crockett trading glances during the wedding. Was that just residual angst or what were we supposed to get from that?
For two, Natalie doesn’t seem to have any interest in Crockett. In fact, she’s currently angry at him; at the aforementioned wedding, she took time out to snidely tell him that she “thought you were a good guy” after finding out about his kiss with April.
So in the remaining episodes left—keep in mind that next week will be episode 18 of this season—how is she going to not only stop being upset, but develop a believable romantic interest in him? Why would she necessarily need to jump into another romantic relationship with anyone, since her last one involved her moving in with a sociopath?
And what would it mean for Crockett? We still know very little about him as a person (though Schneider also promises that will change), but his two biggest storylines in Chicago Med season 5 would then be about him flirting with co-workers?
It doesn’t seem like the best use of his screen time, putting aside how it makes him look like a bit of a Gary Stu to be attractive to so many people in the hospital (don’t forget the nurses gossiping about his sex life recently).
But we’ll have to keep watching to see what Chicago Med does with Natalie and Crockett. Maybe the “might not” will end up being true in this case. Or maybe he’ll make another bad pass at her as he did with April and fail spectacularly. It’s not for certain that the two characters will hook up—yet plenty of evidence is certainly there based on how they’ve been written in the past and how this show can never resist a new ship.
