What should fans watch for in tonight’s Chicago PD? Get ready for Lines with our Chicago PD season 7, episode 18 preview.
Are Chicago PD fans ready for another Vanessa Rojas-centric episode? That’s what “Lines” is set up to be, with the most information about her personal life yet.
Wednesday’s installment centers around Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) as she discovers that one of her exes might be involved with Intelligence’s latest case.
Not only that, but she then commits obstruction of justice by choosing to delete video footage of him from the department’s files. So she’s doubly in trouble—but how much will the writers really let her hang for it?

After all, this is Chicago PD, where breaking the law is a daily part of the playbook. It’s entirely possible that after some arguments, the rest of Intelligence will ultimately excuse Rojas’s actions as justified or understandable somehow.
On top of that, Rojas is getting a huge part of the spotlight this season. Counting the episode in which she was introduced, “Lines” is the third installment to center on her character, and the second in the last five episodes.

It’s clear that the writers really like her, even if the fans may still be warming up to her. So they may not be inclined to get her into too much of a predicament, especially since on any other TV crime drama, what she’s already done would be enough to get her fired (and thus off the show permanently).
But here’s another question: why does Rojas care—and thus, why should we care? Did she just panic and erase that footage because she’s still not savvy enough to think before she leaps? Or is there something about this guy that she feels the need to protect?
She has to have a reason for putting her own career on the line for him, unless the show is saying that she’s just incredibly dense, and whatever that reason is will also explain to viewers why they ought to care about what happens with that character too. After all, we have no investment in the ex-boyfriend except through Rojas.
So “Lines” probably won’t be the most compelling Chicago PD episode, unless you’re a Vanessa Rojas fan. But it could also wind up shedding more light on the show’s newest character. Maybe learning more about her might make audiences as interested in her as the writers are, and make the show that much better.
