Chicago PD’s Tracy Spiridakos to guest star on FBI as crossover official
Chicago PD and FBI are officially crossing over, as Dick Wolf announced on Wednesday night that Tracy Spiridakos will appear in the FBI season 2 finale.
The rumored Chicago PD and FBI crossover is happening—and it’s happening next week.
Wolf Entertainment announced the cross-network crossover on Wednesday night, after the latest Chicago PD episode set up a collision course with Dick Wolf‘s popular CBS crime drama.
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for the most recent Chicago PD episode, “Lines.”
At the end of “Lines,” Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) sent Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) out of Chicago to work with the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. That’s the team that FBI follows.

Wolf’s production company then posted a statement to their website declaring that the crossover is happening in next week’s episode of FBI (which is also now the FBI season 2 finale, due to production being stopped this month for coronavirus).
“Tracy’s character is a fan favorite,” Dick Wolf said in the announcement, “and I’m extraordinarily happy to be shining an even greater light on her and gaining fans along the way before he return to Chicago PD.”

There was no reference to any other PD character appearing on FBI, or any FBI character coming over to PD, so this is definitely an Upton-only storyline and not a full-on crossover event.
However, it’s still historic because it’s very rare for two shows on different networks to connect at all. It has been done, but it usually involves a lot of logistics. Even with both shows being produced by Wolf, it’s still no easy feat.
It’s also no surprise that it’s Upton making the move—her character has gotten a massive share of screen time during Chicago PD season 7, and some of the season’s biggest moments. If anyone was going to jump shows, it would be her, because the writers have definitely been making an effort to expand her character this season.
And then there’s something else to think about: Upton’s predecessor Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) was said to have moved to New York for a position with the FBI. So now that Upton will be in the city, too, will there be any reference at all to Lindsay? That would seem unlikely, since this will still be primarily an FBI episode, but One Chicago fans can hope.
The crossover happens next Tuesday, March 31 at 9:00 p.m. on CBS, and we’ll have to wait and see if there’s any reference to it in future episodes of PD (since One Chicago sometimes doesn’t even make references to when its own characters pop over between shows).
But will Chicago viewers check out FBI just to see Upton? We’ll also get to find out how many fans co-mingle between the two franchises, or if maybe Chicago fans will also start watching FBI after they see this episode.
