Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas previews Cruz’s wedding
Chicago Fire executive producer Derek Haas teases who attends Cruz’s wedding, and what else happens in Chicago Fire season 8, episode 19, in his latest interview with One Chicago Center.
Haas knows that fans are buzzing about Cruz (Joe Minoso) tying the knot with Chloe (guest star Kristen Gutoskie), so he shared some of the wedding’s guest list with us.
“We don’t have a lot of surprises in terms of who attends,” he said, “but we thought it was important for Trudy [Platt], Donna [Robbins-Boden], [Cruz’s brother] Leon, Cindy [Herrmann], and all the Herrmann children to be there. I think it turned out beautifully.”

Is Wednesday’s episode going to find a way to work in some nod to Cruz’s best friend, Otis (Yuri Sardarov), who was killed in the season 8 premiere? Derek was mum about that, but did tell us that if it happens, it won’t be with a flashback to when Otis was alive.
“We don’t do a lot of flashbacks on this show,” he said. “I think there has been one in eight seasons, and that was at the top of the episode.
So if Otis’s presence is felt at Cruz’s wedding, it will definitely not be through Sardarov making a guest appearance.

More Chicago Fire season 8, episode 19 teases
The subplot in Wednesday’s episode involves the dynamic duo of Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) and Darren Ritter (recurring guest star Daniel Kyri). They decide that Firehouse 51 needs to use more social media, and that will undoubtedly have hilarious results.
Especially since this story is happening a week after Chicago Fire had a story about Reddit, what had Derek wanting to do another tale about social media?.
“We’ve found it fun to explore the generational differences between the young firefighters and the more experienced ones,” he told us. “Some old dogs don’t want to learn new tricks.”
One thing he kept to himself is what comes next for Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) in the wake of her mother’s death last episode. “I can’t tell you the answer,” he demurred, calling that “a volatile and fluid situation.”
Chicago Fire, along with the other two One Chicago series, announced Thursday that it will end its season early due to the production shutdown last month.
