What happened
Upton fans certainly enjoyed Chicago PD season 7, which put Hailey front and center. She had considerable screen time in many episodes, and was the central character in several of them. In the One Chicago crossover event “Infection” she was kept in quarantine and befriended a young girl who was also potentially exposed.
Then in “Informant” she reunited with a confidential informant, whom Upton suspected was murdered by Darius Walker (Michael Beach). In “Intimate Violence” the show revisited the topic of her having an abusive father. And in “Lines” she planted evidence in order to ensure that her new roommate Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) didn’t have to see her ex-boyfriend screwed over after a plea deal was revoked.
All of this behavior contributed to an increasingly fractious relationship with Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). Voight angrily confronted her about not turning into him, before he sent her off to New York for special training with the FBI. Upton was subsequently featured in the FBI season 2 finale “Emotional Rescue” on CBS.
When the Chicago PD season ended, Hailey was still in New York (her training program was said to be several months long), and last seen on a phone call with her partner. Presumably, she’ll be back whenever the new season begins, but will she actually have learned anything?
