In this article, we’re profiling Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati).

What happened

Burgess didn’t get much to do in the start of Chicago PD season 7, as the writers focused on the introduction of new Intelligence Unit member Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) and devoted more screen time to Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). But when the focus was finally on Kim, it was in a very big, game-changing way.

She found out in the season’s eighth episode “No Regrets” that she was pregnant by her ex-fiance Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), with whom she had hooked up again after the first crossover of the season. Ruzek even proposed again, though Kim turned him down. It seemed like they were finally going to get the happy ending that many fans wanted.

But five episodes after the pregnancy was revealed, Chicago PD had Burgess violently lose the baby in a battle to save a young woman from a sex trafficker. Kim had an understandably tough time dealing with it, eventually exploding on Ruzek later in the season and admitting that she blamed herself.

And two episodes after her miscarriage, she came face-to-face with her other ex-fiance Sean Roman (Brian Geraghty), only to realize Roman murdered the drug dealer who had killed his sister. While these were great episodes for Marina Squerciati, it was a rough stretch of the season for Kim Burgess, and that made this possibly her hardest season overall.
