Chicago Med season 5 character review: Maggie Lockwood
Our Chicago Med season 6 prognosis for Maggie Lockwood
When Chicago Med season 6 premieres, the first question will be Maggie and Ben’s status as foster parents. Will they wind up only being temporary guardians for Auggie, or will they think on it even further and decide to permanently adopt him? Either way, that’s going to be a big emotional moment and something that changes both of their lives forever.
Past that, because of all the new developments in her life, Maggie’s future is somewhat of a blank slate. Could she go back to being the hybrid OR nurse now that she’s feeling better and since it’s a bad idea to have April working with Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains)? That would make a certain amount of sense, but feels unlikely since Chicago Med has enjoyed the tension between Crockett and April. If Maggie doesn’t go back, are there other ways to advance her career?
It would also be worthwhile to explore the realities of Ben and Maggie’s relationship now that the honeymoon period has come to a close. They may have met and bonded over their health issues, but what else do they have in common? Will they run into some speed bumps since they made a big commitment relatively quickly? TV shows often don’t explore the growth of a marriage unless it’s a fight about something, so it’d be cool to see how Maggie integrates into Ben’s life and vice versa.
Maggie could come to Ben’s school and speak to his students for some reason—that would be a fun subplot and if any Chicago Med character was going to give a career-type speech, Maggie is by far and away the perfect choice for that. Or Ben could volunteer at the hospital on occasion; they always seem to need volunteers. Now that the writers have given Maggie all these new aspects of her life, the next thing to do is build on them. Don’t just push them aside now that they’re not new anymore.
