It’s August which means Chicago Fire season 8 has finally made it to DVD. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (the home video arm of NBCUniversal) has put out the latest season on physical media—and here’s everything you need to know about the set.

Season 8 ran from September 2019 until April 2020, when it was cut several episodes short by the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the shutdown of film and TV productions. Fans will still get all of the 20 episodes that aired during the season.

You can order the Chicago Fire season 8 DVD now through Amazon; as of this writing, the set retails for $24.96.

What are the Chicago Fire season 8 DVD details?

Season 8 arrives on DVD in a six-disc collection with all 20 episodes, including the last appearances of two of the show’s main cast members and a pair of crossovers.

The set is presented in widescreen video with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, so on par with what fans have been watching on their high-defintion NBC stations.

There are closed captions for the viewers who are hard of hearing.

Where this set hits a speed bump is in support for fans who prefer languages other than English. The only other language option is French subtitles.

Is Chicago Fire season 8 on Blu-Ray?

No. This season is not being released on Blu-Ray; it is DVD only.

This is in line with the previous seasons; none of the One Chicago shows have ever been put out on Blu-Ray.in the United States (and very few TV shows overall get BD releases because it’s cost-prohibitive anyway).

What are the Chicago Fire season 8 DVD special features?

There are no special features on the DVD set. No behind the scenes featurettes, no commentaries, no gag reel or deleted scenes.

The only extras Universal have included are the Chicago PD and Chicago Med episodes that made up the rest of this season’s crossovers. If you don’t watch the other two shows, that ensures you can watch the full crossover events without having to buy another box set(s).

But there’s nothing specific to this release, which is again common. The One Chicago releases are traditionally pretty bare-bones with those additional episodes having been the only add-ons for a few years now. That makes this set ideal for those who like physical media or are continuing with their existing DVD collection; if you’re already streaming the episodes, you’re not missing anything.
