What we’re most looking forward to from One Chicago season premieres
Here’s what we want most when One Chicago returns.
Today would normally be when One Chicago fans are celebrating the Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD season premiere. But due to ongoing current events, the shows aren’t starting up tonight—they’ve been delayed until mid-November.
With production just beginning to get underway (Chicago Med just restarted filming this week), it’s going to be a while before audiences have new episodes to watch. However, that also means anticipation might be at an all-time high by the time the franchise gets back on the air. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a short list of the one thing we want most from each of the new seasons.

Chicago Fire season 9
Chicago Fire has been the busiest show this offseason, dropping one main cast member while adding two more. Annie Ilonzeh was not asked back as paramedic Emily Foster and replaced by newcomer Adriyan Rae (Vagrant Queen) as paramedic Gianna Mackey. Meanwhile, after two seasons, Daniel Kyri was finally promoted from recurring to series regular as firefighter Darren Ritter. So the one thing we want is that these changes work out.
The series has always had a fair amount of turnover—remember that it killed off a series regular in the very first season—but this latest cast shuffle could be a turning point for the show. It’s clear the writers felt something wasn’t working with Foster, or they would have brought Ilonzeh back. So how will they address that with the new Mackey character? How will Brett react to having yet another new partner?
It’s incredible news that we’re going to see more of Ritter, because he’s been a great character since he first appeared in season 7. Yet how will the show work him in on a regular basis? It’s one thing to write for a recurring player who might have a scene or two in an episode. It’s another if you want that character and actor to be a regular who gets their own stories. Ritter has been a fun foil to Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) but this should also be his chance to shine.
Fans can tell when a TV show brings on new characters who aren’t as great as the ones before. But Derek Haas and company are experts at this sort of thing, so we’re optimistic that these new arrivals will provide the spark that everyone is hoping for.
