In this article, we’re profiling Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
Where we left off
Upton was once again one of the busiest characters not only on Chicago PD, but in the entire One Chicago universe. During season 7, she contracted the virus going around in the “Infection” three-part crossover, making her one of the most prominent characters during that event.
When Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) was introduced to the series, Upton got herself a roommate, opening up her home to the newbie. She also acted as somewhat of a mentor for her, while the two bonded over their experiences as undercover officers, and helped save Rojas’ bacon after the other woman stepped way over the line helping someone from her past.
Upton also continued growing closer to partner Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). Though she stopped short of confessing any romantic feelings after Halstead was shot in the midseason finale, showrunner Rick Eid has confirmed in interviews that the two are falling in love with each other, so Upstead is definitely a thing in canon.
Hailey’s relationship with Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) was much more contentious, with Voight sending her to New York to avoid becoming him—but in reality to set up a crossover with Dick Wolf‘s other series FBI. Upton was the only Chicago PD character to participate in the cross-network, two-show event. As such, she had a minimal presence in the final episodes of season 7.
