Chicago Fire season 9 character preview: Sylvie Brett
What will happen
Given how Brett was supportive of Foster’s decision to return to medical school when viewers saw them last, it’s likely that she won’t be super-bothered by her partner’s departure. EIther it will have happened off-screen or it’ll happen in the season 9 premiere, depending on whether or not the show is able to bring Annie Ilonzeh back for a formal exit. Either way, Brett will get over it and get right into working with her new partner.
The mere fact that she has a new partner will mean that part of her season will be about getting Gianna acclimated to the firehouse, and getting herself used to who Gianna is and how she does things. That’s going to be a lot of pretty standard stuff but that’s the stuff that has to happen in any TV show when a new character is introduced.
As far as the Casey of it all goes, don’t necessarily hold your breath. The fact that the show had him hook up with Dawson suggests that the writers still have a soft spot for that pairing and so does Casey. They’ll likely continue to stretch out the romantic tension between Casey and Brett in season 9—and Brett doesn’t seem like the kind of character to give him an ultimatum, so this could go on for a while (unless the writers fall back on another classic One Chicago device, almost killing a character to get another character to confess their love/make up with them).
