Chicago Med season 6, episode 3 preview: Do You Know The Way Home
Chicago Med season 6, episode 3 preview.
Not much will have changed when Chicago Med returns to the airwaves tonight after the winter hiatus—the hospital will continue to be ground zero for emotional drama.
In “Do You Know The Way Home,” April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) returns to work in the Emergency Department after starting the season in the hospital’s COVID-19 ward.
Her first case sees her teamed up with Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), and of course, she’ll have to cross paths with her ex-fiance Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee).

April’s storylines can be hit or miss of recent; sometimes they’re entertaining, and sometimes she comes off being too opinionated and self-centered, kind of like Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) has in the past.

We know that she was passionate about working with COVID-19 patients, so will her being upset about having to work elsewhere overshadow whatever case she’s working on? Especially since Choi has been promoted, are we going to get more of them butting heads since their breakup?
Speaking of Natalie, she’s working again with Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains), which isn’t a surprise since Chicago Med fans know that the two are being positioned as future love interests. More of his past will come out, too, as a “former acquaintance” will be their next patient.
This opens up all sorts of possibilities: Will Natalie be jealous? Will she get some kind of insight into Crockett, like she did in the season 5 finale when she found out about his child? Or what will be revealed to her, and thus to the audience?
Lots of people from characters’ pasts have been used as patients on this show, whether it’s ex-lovers, family members, or friends. That’s the most convenient way for the writers to dig into the characters’ history. With Crockett, we still need to find out more about him—but because Natalie is also involved, this could end up being less about fleshing out his character and more about the future relationship the show is trying to build.
The one really neat thing here is that Nate Santana will return as Dr. James Lanik; it seemed like Lanik stepping down as ED chief would be the end of Santana’s appearances on the show but he’s sticking around. That’s great news, because while Lanik is the character we love to hate, Santana is a fun actor to watch. How will his voluntary demotion affect his work? And will we ever get to know more about him other than his cantankerous attitude?
