Chicago Med season 6 adds Steven Weber as new doctor
Steven Weber will join Chicago Med as Choi’s former boss.
Yet another new doctor is coming to Chicago Med later this season.
Per multiple media reports, Steven Weber—best known for starring in NBC‘s hit 90’s sitcom Wings as Brian Hackett—will be joining the show in March as a recurring guest star.
Weber’s character, Dr. Dean Archer, reunites with Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) when Archer gets a job at the hospital. However, since Archer used to be Choi’s boss when both were in the Navy, he has a hard time taking orders from Choi.

It’s not known if Choi is somehow involved with getting Archer the job in Chicago, or how many episodes Weber will appear in.
What’s interesting is that the character description refers to Archer as “second-in-command,” suggesting he has some kind of authority already.

Fans have never really seen how the ED hierarchy works, outside of there being a chief that everyone else has to answer to. So is there a sort of deputy chief role that’s just never been shown on the series before, and that’s what the new character is doing?
Or does Choi bring in an old friend to help him manage the Emergency Department, which we already know has been a challenge for him?
Either way, it’s going to be a bit strange to see a brand-new character having a higher rank than characters who’ve been around for years. If Archer does start issuing orders, that’s going to ruffle a lot of feathers (looking at you, Will Halstead), and the fans probably won’t like it either.
But Steven Weber is a solid TV actor who knows his way around the small screen, so he’ll definitely add something to the show, even if the character of Dean Archer sounds a bit confusing right now.
Weber starred in the NBC sitcom Indebted last year; it was cancelled after one season. Aside from Wings, he was a series regular on the network’s’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip from 2006-2007 and the network gave him his own sitcom The Weber Show back in 2000-01.
He also recurred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and guest-starred in an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
