What did One Chicago fans learn from the latest Chicago Fire episode? Here’s what we took away from this week’s installment, “Funny What Things Remind Us.”

“Funny What Things Remind Us” featured Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) on a quest to help a mystery man they found at a condemned home. Elsewhere, new love interests popped up for two other members of Firehouse 51.

If you missed any of this week’s episode or just want a refresher on the events that we’re about to discuss, you can catch up with our Chicago Fire recap.

Below are our takeaways from this week’s episode:

More from Chicago Fire

1) More Boden is always a good thing

This was another episode that reminded fans that Eamonn Walker is an incredible actor. Not that viewers doubted that, but Chicago Fire doesn’t always get the time to have big Boden storylines. In a lot of episodes, he’s either dealing with some kind of administrative or disciplinary issue, or being used for comic relief.

When there’s a storyline like the Henry plot, though, where Boden and Walker get to be front and center, it’s always worth watching. That last scene between Boden and Henry, where the Chief is seemingly able to convince Henry to finally say goodbye to his home, was powerful and touching.

2) The Casey and Brett roller coaster continues

Nobody expected Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) to magically make up an episode after she told him she needed space. But for Chicago Fire to introduce new love interests for both of them in the very next episode was a surprise.

They’re both welcome to see other people if they’re not going to date each other, but did we need to go down that road right away? What made it additionally weird, too, was that neither of these developments was not subtle at all. Both of the new characters were pretty obvious in wanting to make a move on Casey and Brett.

This just felt like adding more speed bumps to an already long road.

3) But what about the doughnuts?!

While watching the epic prank war between Mouch (Christian Stolte) and Chuck, did anyone else think about all those doughnuts? There were a lot of doughnuts used in this episode, dumped out of a truck and from a helicopter, and even though Mouch mentions at one point that some of them are old, it was hard not to look at them and think of all those delicious snacks gone to waste.

Plus, can you imagine the conversation in the making of this episode? Because somebody had to source all those day-old donuts (or make something that looked like them) to get them in those scenes.
