Chicago PD season 8, episode 5 recap.

This week’s Chicago PD was a Kim Burgess-driven episode, and saw her change her life both professionally and personally,

Wednesday’s episode “In Your Care” involved Intelligence investigating what looked like a group of carjackers, but turned out to be a unit of troubled teenagers committing totally different crimes.

Meanwhile, Burgess (Marina Squerciati) found out that the girl she bonded with in “Tender Age” was in government custody and couldn’t help but get involved in her life again.

Chicago PD opens with another domestic moment between Burgess and Ruzek, who really have settled into a routine. Burgess gets annoyed when Ruzek spills his beer on her rug, which it turns out he hates. “Don’t we know better than this?” she asks as they start fooling around instead of cleaning up the spill.

The next day they discuss this latest hookup. Ruzek suggests that they could just start dating again, since they’re living together and they clearly still want to sleep together. Burgess argues that she wants a wedding and babies (plural). But their debate is cut short by a call for backup which leads them to a car accident; one of the drivers is hurt by more than the accident.

Burgess explains to her Intelligence teammates that Jeff must have been beaten up before he got into the wreck. Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton (Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos) answer another radio call from a few blocks away where a worker tells them that he saw three teenagers wearing ski marks getting into a grey SUV. It looks like Jeff was the victim of an attempted carjacking.

Back at the district Burgess finds out the grey SUV belongs to a woman working at the Department of Children and Family Services. She and Ruzek interview the woman, who gives them more than a dozen names of kids who could have stolen her car keys. As they’re leaving they run into Makayla Ward, the kid from “Tender Age,” and find out that she’s been placed into DCFS custody. Burgess is not happy.
