Tonight’s Chicago PD should be a pivotal episode this season. There’s certainly a lot to look forward to in “Impossible Dream.”

For starters, this is the second Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) episode in a row, when in the past it was good news if there were two Atwater-centric installments in the season. LaRoyce is an incredible actor who’s often felt underused, so the more episodes that give him something major to do, the better.

On top of that, the synopsis for this episode reveals that it takes place in a neighborhood that Kevin used to patrol. Whenever a TV show brings up a place or person that a main character used to know, it’s usually a way further into their backstory. So will we learn anything new about one of One Chicago’s fan favorites?

The other major thing to watch for is that this should be the episode where Officer Andre Cooper (Cleveland Berto), who was introduced last week, officially joins the Intelligence Unit.

Audiencs know that Berto was cast last year to replace Lisseth Chavez, who was not asked back for season 8. The synopsis for this episode also reveals that Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (recurring guest star Nicole Ari Parker) asks for a “favor” regarding Cooper. That pretty obviously sounds like Cooper’s way into the unit, and Berto’s transition to series regular.

The promo for “Impossible Dream” focuses more on Cooper than Atwater, though we see the two of them together as well. Is that just for this week, or will Chicago PD pair the two together? It’s a toss-up; Cooper is replacing the character who was Atwater’s last partner, but Kevin also now has an entertaining partnership with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger).

Put it all together, and this ought to be an hour that meshes the new character with the team while also giving viewers more insight into an existing character everyone knows and loves. Plus, if you see the photos this week—if you haven’t, click the banner below—there’s the usual helping of action, too. What else could One Chicago fans ask for?
