Chicago Med season 6, episode 12 preview: Some Things Are Worth The Risk
Chicago Med brings a few recurring plots to a head in this week’s episode, which also boasts as close to a One Chicago crossover event as we’ve had all season.
“Some Things Are Worth The Risk” brings back Margaret Colin (Now & Again) as Natalie’s mom Carol, and Natalie (Torrey DeVitto) does “whatever it takes” for her mother. This shouldn’t come as any surprise to fans since Natalie does whatever it takes with most of her patients. Remember that she nearly got fired this season, although that was equally Crockett’s fault.
Plus, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) finally has his much talked about meeting with Kender Pharma’s CEO, and there’s an update on the woman who was fixated on Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt). Med has tended toward more serialized storytelling than the other two One Chicago series, but it seems like it’s tying up some loose ends this week.

Elsewhere, there’s a plot with Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and Dr. Dean Archer (recurring guest star Steven Weber) that will hopefully shed some more light on Archer’s character.
Steven Weber has been a great addition to the show but so far Archer has just been a troublemaker. He ought to be fleshed out more and with the plot going into their shared backstory this might be when that happens.

The episode is directed by the legendary Carl Weathers, who starred as State’s Attorney Mark Jefferies in Chicago Justice. He’s the second star from that show to appear on Med since its cancellation; Joelle Carter, who portrayed Laura Nagel, popped up as one of Will’s patients in an episode. Not only is that awesome, but it sets up a pretty cool sidenote.
The Choi and Archer story features guest appearances by several Chicago Fire cast members, meaning that three of the four One Chicago shows are represented in the same story. All that’s missing is somebody from Chicago PD, and we’d have a complete crossover moment!
In total there are a lot of moving parts in this episode, and it could be one of those where Chicago Med clears the table before diving into a new batch of storylines. Make sure you’re tuned in to see how things turn out and enjoy Carl Weathers’ first episode as a director in the One Chicago world!
