Chicago Med introduces Maggie’s daughter in this week’s season 6 episode

Another family connection is coming to Chicago Med this week when Asjha Cooper joins the cast as Vanessa Taylor, Maggie Lockwood’s previously unseen daughter.

One Chicago fans have followed Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) as she searched for the daughter that she gave up for adoption as a teenager. In Wednesday’s episode “A Red Pill, A Blue Pill,” we finally see Vanessa, who is one of the new crop of medical students coming to the hospital.

According to the episode description, “Third-year med students begin their rotation in the ED and Maggie keeps a careful eye on one of them.”

This isn’t a surprise, because Cooper’s casting was announced almost a month ago and viewers quickly connected the dots between that and Maggie’s daughter subplot.

But it’s the latest time Chicago Med has had family members working together, and it hasn’t ended well before.

Vanessa’s arrival could be a replacement for the dynamic between April and Noah Sexton (Yaya DaCosta and Roland Buck III), which also started as a nurse and med student combination. Noah, however, seems to be gone from the show as he was fired earlier this season.

But as we’ve seen with the Sextons and with Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) and her son Michael, working with family usually brings massive complications.

And that’s with people who have an established family bond—Maggie and Vanessa really don’t know each other. So how will this play out in the last few Chicago Med season 6 episodes? Will Maggie find the family she’s been wanting, or will this end in heartbreak like a lot of One Chicago plots seem to when family is involved?
