Chicago PD season 8, episode 14 preview: Safe
Is Chicago PD driving a wedge into the Intelligence Unit this week?
Wednesday’s episode “Safe” involves Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) stuck in the middle between her boss and her boyfriend while the team tries to catch a group of violent home invaders.
It’s the second time Upton has had drama in four episodes—episode 11, “Signs of Violence”, was also centered on her. So much for her being able to get a break after that case!

Hailey has been through a lot, whether it’s tough cases, her work or even with her dad being in the hospital; she’s probably the character who has changed the most over the last couple of seasons.
So is whatever conflict she gets into here something that’s just for this episode and that’ll be settled by the end of the case, or is it the writers making her life difficult for one more reason?

Another interesting aspect of “Safe” is that the promo for the episode will probably confuse longtime fans. The way it’s edited together, it sounds like Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is confronting Upton about her romantic relationship with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer).
But there have been several relationships that Voight hasn’t said anything about over the years. There was Upton and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), and Burzek have been on and off, too. Is Voight changing his tune when it comes to his team’s personal lives, or is the promo just looking like he does?
Even if he hates Upstead, though, the writers and a large portion of the fans like the newest ship, so it’s unlikely that Chicago PD does too much damage to the relationship here. We’ll have to see how much of the episode is about that, and how much is about the case. Any way you slice it, it’s sounding like another challenging week for Hailey Upton.
