What’s next for Kelly Severide in Chicago Fire season 10?
Our prognosis
Is Chicago Fire killing off Kelly Severide? It’s important to note that there has been no official word about Taylor Kinney’s future with the show, leading several fans to speculate that he was ready to move on to other things. But all the information laid out thus far points toward Severide’s survival.
It makes very little sense for the show to have Severide propose and then kill him a few episodes later. Stellaride fans would be understandably up in arms if they got excited about a wedding only to have it ripped away from them. And even if you’re not a shipper, that’s just a complete downer of an ending. One would hope that if Taylor Kinney was planning on leaving, the series would give him a better sendoff than dangling happiness in front of Severide and then him randomly dying before he gets to it.
Assuming for now that he survives, there’s got to be a Stellaride wedding before season 10 is out; fans will be clamoring to see that happen. It’d be exactly the kind of huge thing to save for a finale or the midseason premiere. Past that, there’s lots of story mileage in wedding prep, how Severide adjusts to being married, or just what he wants to do with his future—he’s now seen Casey move up in his career and Stella move up with hers, so while he said a few seasons back that he wasn’t interested in going anywhere, could he start feeling like he should also make a move?
And of course, if the show does kill off someone else on Squad, expect Severide to be devastated and need to deal with that. Otis’s death was hard enough for him (and everyone) to get over; this could be a similar situation that lasts at least a few episodes.
