What’s next for Crockett Marcel in Chicago Med season 7?

Ideally, Chicago Med will bring Torrey DeVitto back for the season 7 premiere so that Natalie can be written out on-screen and say a proper goodbye to Crockett. He deserves that, and after the way the show emphasized their romance last season, it should have an ending. But that’s up to the writers and up to DeVitto; if she doesn’t come back, then it’ll be awkward to see how the show explains Crockett being single again, unless it does another time jump.

We have our fingers crossed that the series doesn’t immediately pair him off with whoever else shows up to fill the void. Crockett’s already been paired (somewhat, since he never actually dated April) with two characters in two seasons. While it’s true the One Chicago franchise as a whole puts an emphasis on romantic relationships, he doesn’t necessarily need to jump into another one right away. There’s enough to still unpack about who he is that he can stand on his own plot-wise for a while.

It also seems like we haven’t seen the full extent of what Dominic Rains can do. When he’s given really hard moments (like, say, the “Infection” crossover from two seasons ago) he shows a lot of talent. But some of his cases ended up being rushed through a bit for the sake of getting everyone into 42-minute episodes, and having more screen time for Crockett and Natalie meant less screen time for Crockett as a surgeon. What would be great is to find some kind of professional challenge for him and see how he rises to the occasion. Or find a character who can push him next season.
