Chicago Fire season 9 was an interesting season, to say the least. Like most shows, the ninth season of NBC’s firefighter drama faced many obstacles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic including a delayed start to the season, a shorter than usual episode count, and the elimination of the year’s annual One Chicago crossover event.

The season also was one in which the writers had to get creative when handling certain storylines in looking to create the safest possible environment for the cast and crew. Because of this, there were certain storylines the writers weren’t quite able to incorporate into the season which apparently included the return of a previously introduced character.

As Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas recently revealed to TVLine, one storyline the writing team was hoping to revisit in season 9 was that of Brett’s (Kara Killmer) little sister Amelia. However, due to the pandemic, the team wasn’t able to work her return into season 9 as originally intended.

“Amelia, we were going to do this season, and logistically, with COVID, we couldn’t have a baby on set,” Haas revealed.

While a timeline was not provided as to when exactly we could next see Ameilia, one has to imagine the writers might try to work the storyline into the show’s upcoming tenth season. After all, we can’t imagine they’d look to drag the storyline out too much. Plus with protocols evolving and restrictions lifting, there seems to be hope that having a younger actor on set would be safe once more by the time season 10 begins filming — thus allowing Brett to finally reconnect with her little sister.

It’s also possible that next season fans might get an update on another character with a shared connection to Brett.

When will we get an update on Foster on Chicago Fire?

As it turns out, Amelia’s return wasn’t the only storyline that slipped through the cracks in Chicago Fire season 9 as there was another character whose presence was missing during the season as well.

We’re referring to Brett’s former partner Emily Foster (Annie IIonzeh), who departed the show after season 8 to return to med school. Although fans might not have gotten a fulfilling update on Foster’s journey in season 9, it does sound like there are plans to provide fans with a Foster update sometime in season 10.
