Chicago Med season 7: Did Med just cast Will Halstead’s replacement?
By Cody Schultz
Heading into Chicago Med season 7, one of the biggest burning questions on the minds of fans is what the writers have in store for Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).
To recap, as season 6 came to a close, Will found himself in extremely hot water as the truth finally came out about Natalie’s (Torrey DeVitto) being given stolen drugs from the clinical trial. After learning of his actions and having to deal with the fallout of said actions, Goodwin. (S. Epatha Merkerson) found herself left with no choice but to let Will go, firing him for his actions as the season ended.
While Natalie ultimately confessed the truth to Goodwin in the final moment of the season in coming clean about being the one to steal the trial drugs, Will’s future remains very much up in the air heading into season 7. Although he might not have been the one to steal the drugs, he did cover for Natalie and this isn’t exactly the first time he’s gone rogue which has many worried about his future at the hospital.
As Will’s future at Med hangs in the balance, it seems Chicago Med might have already filled the possible void left by both Will and Natalie with the addition of two new actors to the Chicago Med season 7 cast.
Who’s joining the Chicago Med season 7 cast?
In looking ahead to season 7, NBC has added actors Guy Lockard and Kristen Hager to the Chicago Med cast in series regular roles for the show’s upcoming seventh season. While it’s possible their arrival is to help fill the vacancies of Torrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta, the fact that the pair will both be playing doctors definitely leaves us to wonder if their arrival could be connected to Will’s possible departure.

As reported by Deadline, who was first to break the casting news, Lockard will be playing Dr. Dylan Scott, a Chicago police officer turned doctor. Hager, meanwhile, will be playing emergency room attending physician Dr. Stevie Hammer.
Given where we left Will and Natalie in the season 6 finale, it’s going to be interesting to see if the arrival of Dylan and Stevie will be directly connected to the fallout from the clinical trial mayhem and whether either doctor was brought in as a replacement, temporary or otherwise, for Will, in particular.
Considering we know Nick Gehlfuss will be back for season 7, it’s possible the arrival of these two new doctors is entirely unrelated to Will’s current predicament as we know he’ll be sticking around. That said, the arrival of Med’s newest docs does have us wondering what this could mean for Will’s future and the story the writers have planned for the season ahead.
