Chicago Med spoilers: Is Ethan coming back to Chicago Med?

In the season 6 finale of Chicago Med, Ethan (Brian Tee) attempted to de-escalate an intense confrontation between Dean (Steven Weber) and one of his former patients. When the patient pulled a gun on Dean, Ethan attempted to step in to save his friend which led to him being shot in the chest.

Following the incident, Ethan was raced into emergency surgery to save his life. While the surgery was successful, the high-risk procedure took quite the toll on Ethan and it was made clear he’d be in store for a long recovery.

After Ethan’s brush with death in the season 6 premiere, it was anticipated that fans would get the chance to see Ethan’s recovery unfold across the first episodes of season 7. However, instead of Ethan’s recovery playing out on-screen, the writers have instead written Ethan out of the picture in having his recovery take place off-screen.

As a result of this decision, fans have yet to see Brian Tee back in action as Dr. Ethan Choi thus far in season 7 of Chicago Med leaving many to wonder whether  Tee has left the show for good like fellow departing cast members Torrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta.

Has Brian Tee left Chicago Med?

While his absence in the first episodes of season 7 has been a reason for concern, the good news is that Brian Tee has not left Chicago Med. In fact, he actually extended his contract with the show over the offseason which means he will be returning at some point in season 7.

What seems to have caused Ethan’s absence in the first episodes is Tee’s role in the new Amazon Original program, Expats. Although the filming schedule for the new Amazon drama has not been confirmed, it appears the writers wrote Ethan off-screen in the early episodes of the season in order to accommodate his filming schedule for the series.

Although it’s unclear when Ethan will return, fans can at least rest at ease in knowing Tee has not left the show and will return sometime this season.
