Chicago Med: Does Dr. Dylan Scott know Chicago PD’s Jay Halstead?
Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard) is quickly becoming a fan favorite on Chicago Med. The personable doctor has brought welcome energy to the ED, between his interactions with patients and the rest of the show’s team.
There’s more to Scott than meets the eye, however. The character worked as a Chicago policeman before he shifted to medicine, and he wears a bullet necklace around his neck as a reminder of his time with the badge. This would be a compelling detail for most shows, but given the crossover history of the One Chicago universe, it could lead to bigger storylines involving the characters in Chicago PD.
Does Dylan Scott know members of the Chicago PD team? Will he cross paths with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), the brother of Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss)? Read on for a rundown of what we know so far.
Does Dr. Dylan Scott have ties to Chicago PD?
Yes, Dr. Scott has a history with the Chicago PD crew. During the season 7 premiere of Chicago Med, the character tells Dr. Halstead that he knows his brother Jay. There isn’t much expanded on in terms of Scott and Jay’s relationship, but given the franchise’s track record, it’s safe to assume that fans will get more details in the future.
Scott also hinted at the fact that he maintains connections within the police department. He called in some favors with various officers during the season 7 premiere, and let slip that his father is a lieutenant at the 23rd District. The depths of Scott’s connections seem to hint at the likelihood that he will play a crucial role in the next One Chicago crossover event.
The last time fans were treated to a crossover was October 2019, when Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD aired back-to-back in a three-part story arc called “Infection.” There were plans to stage another crossover during the 2021 TV season, but complications from COVID-19 has resulted in a lengthy delay.

Showrunner Derek Haas confirmed the crossover with TV Line. “I feel bad, because we had one planned, and we had it all talked out with the showrunners of the other two shows, and we know what we’re going to do, and it’s enormous”, he revealed. “But the Delta variant kind of forced our hand.”
The silver lining of this delay is that Chicago Med will have more time to develop Scott as a crucial character. By the time he gets around to interacting with the rest of the One Chicago universe, he will be a dramatic bedrock for the series.
