Chicago Med has welcomed several newcomers in season 7. Most of them have blended nicely into the ED ensemble, as they’ve boosted the chemistry between the veteran characters and given the show a fresh energy.

With that said, there’s been a bit of confusion surrounding one new character in particular. The character in question is Terri Hammer, the mother of Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager). Some fans think that the mysterious maternal figure is played by Carol Kane, but in reality, she’s played by Bonita Friedericy.

Because the Carol Kane mix-up seems to be a recurring issue, we decided to look at the actress’ career and determine how it came to be.

Carol Kane is NOT part of the Chicago Med cast

Carol Kane and Bonita Friedericy don’t usually look alike, but we think that the confusion stems from the fact that Friedericy, when done up as the Terri Hammer character, does look somewhat similar to Kane. Both women have white hair and an eccentric delivery, and one could easily see Kane doing an excellent job in the role.

Kane’s involvement in Chicago PD wouldn’t be a stretch, given her career is littered with guest spots in shows like Seinfeld, Two and Half Men, and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. That’s not even mentioning her iconic role as Simka on Taxi, which netted her two Emmy Awards in 1982.

The actress has also proven adept at drama, as evidenced by her work in films like Dog Day Afternoon , Hester Street (both 1975), and When a Stranger Calls (1979), and the Amazon series Hunters. She was most recently seen in the interactive Netflix film Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend (2020).

Kane may not be part of the One Chicago universe, but she is technically a part of the bigger Wolf Entertainment franchise. She appeared in two episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Gwen Munch, the eccentric ex-wife of John Munch (Richard Belzer).
