Who does Carmela Zumbado play on Chicago PD?

Chicago PD hit a dramatic roadblock in the episode “Trust Me”. Voight (Jason Beghe) decides to put his faith in a mysterious informant, and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) is so baffled by the choice that he starts to suspect Voight can’t be trusted.

The confrontation between Voight and Halstead has been building for a couple episodes how, but the informant at the center of their conflict is new to viewers. She’s played by Carmela Zumbado, who’s confirmed to reappear throughout season 9.

With that in mind, here’s everything we know about Zumbado and her informant character.

Who plays Anna Avalos in Chicago PD season 9?

Zumbado plays Anna Avalos, a DEA informant who has connections with the local drug scene in Chicago. She first crosses paths with Halstead in the beginning of “Trust Me”, though her identity is unclear. Halstead tries to check up on who she is, only to discover that her name and her address are fake.

She eventually makes contact with Voight, and agrees to provide him with information about the drug scene for a hefty payday. Voight agrees, despite the lingering feeling that Anna has an ulterior motive. The two unlikely figures form a close bond over the course of the episode, much to the dismay of the rest of the CPD team.

While it’s unlikely that Voight and Anna will strike up a romance, Jason Beghe has hinted at a deep connection playing out in season 9. “If you look at [the team] as a family and Voight as the father — the responsible party — his family is unhappy and dangerously out of sync. It doesn’t feel like home anymore”, Beghe told TV Insider.

Furthermore, Voight sees a kindred, corrupt spirit in Anna. “They’re both willing to bend rules in order to get justice”, Beghe added, which suggests there may be some scheming on the part of the characters that leaves out the rest of the Intelligence unit.

Carmela Zumbado should be a familiar face for those who have watched the Netflix hit You. She played Delilah during the show’s second season, and has also popped up in episodes of Bloodline, The Rookie, and NCIS: New Orleans. More recently, she played the role of Gwen on the iCarly reboot.

It’s not yet clear how many episodes of Chicago PD Zumbaro will appear in, but it’s almost certain that she’ll play a crucial part in shaping the events of the season.
