Chicago PD spoilers: What happened in season 9 episode 8?
The noose is tightening around the neck of certain Chicago PD members. While they may have made the right moral call at the end of season 8, the decision to cover up a self-defense shooting has caused lots of tension for Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), and Voight (Jason Beghe).
The episode “Fractures” explores the dynamic between these three officers against the backdrop of a dad who was seemingly stabbed at random. The unraveling oddity of the case is interesting enough, but the quiet disagreements between Halstead and Voight, in particular, help this episode to stand out before the show’s winter break.

What happened on Chicago PD last night? (November 10th)
Chicago PD wastes little time setting up the stakes. Voight is ushered into a room with Sam Miller (Nicole Ari Parker) and FBI man North. Voight is told that the FBI is looking into the disappearance of Roy Walton, and that they’re going to require total cooperation from the IU if they are going to establish an airtight timeline of Walton’s last sighting. Voight agrees before leaving to answer a crime scene call.
The team answer the call of a man who was stabbed in a seeming home invasion. All signs point to a robbery, including the panicked state of the man’s daughters. Not much thought is paid to alternative theories, especially when Halstead and Upton find out about the FBI investigation. They attempt to confront Voight about a game plan, but the veteran cop assures them that nothing is going to happen.
Agent North arrives at the station with paperwork and a killer instinct. Trudy (Amy Morton) tells Voight that North specifically requested to be put on the case, meaning he’s looking to take down some cops in an effort to further his career. North periodically inserts himself into the situation while the IU are trying to solve the case, and the pressure starts to take its toll on Halstead.

Despite North’s constant badgering, the IU are able to determine that the man was stabbed by the boyfriend of one of his conspiring daughters. The case goes cold due to both daughters refusing to talk, but Voight is confident that one of them will crack when separated. Through some ace work on Upton’s part, she’s able to discern that daughter Candice actually killed the man, and threated Darlene with a similar fate is she spoke up.
Voight discovers a tracker and a wire in his car, and when Halstead spots him doing so, he panics. He demands to know what the FBI is asking about, but Voight assures him that they can’t press a case unless they have a body. The veteran commander also reminds Halstead that if he decides to talk, he would be hanging the whole thing around Upton’s neck (since she pulled the trigger).
The agreements holds little sway. Halstead gets pulled over by North on his way home and taken out to the exact sight that Walton was buried. North lets it be known that he figured out the true events of Walton’s disappearance, and gives Halstead two choices. He can either help take down Voight or take the blame alongside his fiancé.
The episode ends on this cliffhanger moment, and what a cliffhanger it is. We can’t wait to see what Halstead does next, as it’ll effect the future of the UI and the show.
