Jon Seda left a big impression on Chicago PD fans as Antonio Dawson. The character was a crucial mainstay during the show’s first six seasons, and his departure came as a shock to many.

Seda has continued to bounce around NBC, spearheading the One Chicago-related show Chicago Justice and serving as one of the leads on the recent drama La Brea. The latter has proven to be a hit with audiences, as it was just renewed for a second season.

Of course, the renewal of the show has many Chicago PD fans wondering if Seda’s commitments will stop him from returning as Dawson, whether it be in a supporting or cameo role. Let’s dive in and see what the chances are of seeing Dawson on the streets of Chicago again.

What happened to Antonio on Chicago PD?

Seda plays Dr. Sam Velez, a former marine physician, on La Brea. He’s one of the most forthright characters in the show when it comes to taking charge, and his military experience has helped him forge a path through the show’s chaotic storyline.

The actor likened Dr. Velez to his Chicago PD character during a Deadline interview. While noting that the aesthetic makeup of both men are different, Seda claimed to be drawn to the core desire to help others.

"“Being part of something that is such an adventure, mystery, drama is exciting. I’m just glad to be a part of it”, he added. “And yeah, maybe not in cop mode, but I think Dr. Sam will tend to want to help as many people as he can.”"

Given that Seda plays such a pivotal role in La Brea, it’s highly unlikely that he will be returning to Chicago PD anytime soon. The actor simply does not have enough time to juggle both shows, even if he were to take a more limited role as Dawson.

That said, there is still hope that Seda will make his way back into the One Chicago universe in the future. Chicago PD showrunner Rick Eid has been open about his admiration for the actor and has stated that the door is open for him to return as a guest whenever he sees fit.

"“I think the door’s always open for someone like Jon”, Eid told Cinemablend. “Everybody here loves him, thinks he’s a great actor. Of course.”"
