Sophia Bush might not be making her way back to Chicago PD anytime soon, but the former One Chicago leading lady is finally making her way back to primetime!

While Bush has appeared in a handful of titles since her departure from Chicago PD after season 4, she’s finally preparing to take over primetime once again as the lead of CBS’s new medical drama Good Sam. In the series, Bush stars as a gifted heart surgeon who has recently been promoted to Chief of Surgery after the hospital’s renowned chief fell into a coma.

Good Sam season 1 premiere date

As announced by CBS, Good Sam season 1 will premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 10/9c on CBS putting it in direct competition with Chicago PD.

Leading the Good Sam cast is Sophia Bush, who is sure to be the biggest draw for One Chicago fans who have been missing her presence following her departure from PD. In the series, Bush plays gifted heart surgeon, Dr. Sam Griffith.

In addition to Bush, the Good Sam cast features an incredible ensemble that includes Jason Isaacs as Dr. Rob “Griff” Griffith,  Skye P. Marshall as Dr. Lex Trulie, Michael Stahl-David as Dr. Caleb Tucker, Omar Maskati as Dr. Isan M. Shah, Davi Santos as Dr. Joey Costa, Wendy Crewson as Vivian Katz and Edwin Hodge as Malcolm A. Kingsley.

Good Sam season 1 synopsis

While Good Sam might sound like your average medical drama, it’s far from it! In the series, Bush stars as Dr. Sam Griffith who must take over the role of Chief of Surgery after the hospital’s chief falls into a coma.

Just when it seems Sam has got her bearing on running the hospital as Chief of Surgery, her former boss comes out of his coma and immediately requests to resume his duties.

Suddenly, Sam is tasked with supervising the “egotistical” doctor who has always overlooked her talents and jumps at any opportunity to defy and challenge her authority. Oh, and did we mention said doctor just so happens to be Sam’s father? Like we said, this isn’t your average medical drama!

"Good Sam stars Sophia Bush and Jason Isaacs in a drama about Dr. Sam Griffith, a gifted heart surgeon who excels in her new leadership role as Chief of Surgery after her renowned boss falls into a coma. When her former boss wakes up months later demanding to resume his duties, Sam is tasked with supervising this egotistical expert with a scalpel who never acknowledged her stellar talent. Complicating matters is that the caustic and arrogant Dr. Rob “Griff” Griffith also happens to be her father. As Griff defies Sam’s authority and challenges her medical expertise, the big question becomes whether this father and daughter will ever be able to mend their own relationship as expertly as they heal the hearts of their patients."
