Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Voight (Jason Beghe) have generally seen eye to eye when it comes to Chicago PD cases. Both men have clear approaches when it comes to justice and bending the law to benefit those in need. Things have been tense between the veteran officers, however.

During the last episode of Chicago PD, Halstead was given the impossible choice of taking the fall for Roy Walton’s death or pushing the blame onto Voight. Neither did the shooting (that dubious distinction goes to Upton), but their involvement in the cover-up has placed both of them in a delicate legal situation.

Here’s everything to know about Halstead and Voight, and whether the former should rat out the latter.

Is Halstead going to betray Voight in Chicago PD?

Halstead has been placed in the worst situation of anyone who knows about the Roy killing. He didn’t prompt the killing like Upton, nor did he help with the disposal of the body like Voight. He just happened upon the truth when both Upton and Voight started to act suspiciously.

The idea of Halstead losing his badge and his freedom over these circumstances seems incredibly unfair to his character. There’s also the matter of his engagement to Upton, which obviously puts her at a higher priority than the gruff, often indifferent Voight.

Ignoring these obvious personal reasons, Halstead has bumped heads with Voight while on the job. The two men have repeatedly clashed over how to handle investigations in season 9, most notably with the informant Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado).

From Halstead’s perspective, it’s understandable that he would let Voight take the fall for the cover-up. Voight has been critical of the young officer, and his past stint in prison makes him an ideal candidate for an FBI agent looking to make a name for themselves.

That said, we maintain hope that Halstead will decide against it. He goes way back with Voight, and sending him up for murder could mean the end of the IU. There’s also the negative way that Halstead’s reputation could be affected if it gets around that he sold out his commanding officer.

We’re confident that the resourceful officer will come up with a third option that saves both his and Voight’s names. Especially if Upton is on hand to advise.
