Is Sharon leaving Chicago Med?
Dr. Sharon Goodwin (S. Empatha Merkerson) has always been an anchor on Chicago Med. Her stern presence and attitude towards her employees has made her a fan favorite, but now it looks as though she may be in hot water.
During the mid-season finale, Goodwin ensured that Dr. Cooper (Michael Rady) and the rest of the employees who were peddling Vascom products were arrested. Due to the office politics of the ED, however, and the fact that Goodwin was told not to contact authorities, Cooper may not be the only one who goes down.
Read on to find out what happened with Goodwin and whether the character will be forced to make a sudden exit.
Will S. Epatha Merkerson be leaving Chicago Med?
Upon securing damning evidence against Cooper, Goodwin and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) went to higher-up employee Peter Kalmick (Marc Grapey). Peter was shocked by the discovery, but he urged them not to contact the FBI, since Cooper’s father-in-law is a member of the board and it would be in the “best interest” of the hospital to handle the issue quietly.
Goodwin seemingly agrees, but it turns out she contacted the FBI and gave them all the info she had on the Vascom scheme. Halstead is justifiably panicked, as he kept his mouth shut, but the head of patient and medical services assures him that she will take all of the blame.
The episode ends on an ominous note, with Peter telling Goodwin “there will be fallout.” It doesn’t look good for her, and its possible that Dr. Halstead may still get dragged into the aftermath, given the role he played in exposing Cooper’s plan.
Chicago Med showrunner Diane Frolov told TV Insider that there will be serious repercussions for both Goodwin and Halstead when the show returns in January 2022.

There’s also been some concern that Goodwin will be leaving Chicago Med because the actress who plays her, S. Epatha Merkerson, was previously a star on Law & Order, which was recently revived by NBC.
Fortunately, it looks like Goodwin and Merkerson are staying put. The character has been a staple for the series, and while things may get difficult for her throughout season 7, she will remain a key player. Merkerson’s conflict regarding Law & Order has also been nullified, as the actress does not plan to return to the procedural drama.
Collider reported that Camryn Manheim will be playing a new character named Lieutenant Kate Dixon, and that she will taking over the spot previously occupied by Merkerson’s Lt. Van Buren.
