Chicago Med: Will Marcel and Blake get together?

Chicago Med dropped a bombshell on viewers in the mid-season episode “Secret Santa Has a Gift for You”. In addition to the hoopla surrounding the Vascom scandal and the subsequent arrests, a romantic bond seemingly developed between Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) and Dr. Blake (Sarah Rafferty).

Despite being in a romantic relationship with Dr. Blake’s daughter, Avery (Johanna Braddy), Marcel decides to give into temptation and kiss Dr. Blake under Mistletoe while at the hospital.

Little is said afterward, but the implications this kiss could have on both characters’ futures could be vast. Here’s a rundown of what happened and what the Chicago Med showrunners have in mind.

Marcel and Blake have flirted in previous episodes, but the heat definitely got turned in in “Secret Santa Has a Gift for You”. Blake commented on Marcel’s cologne, and their body language implies a closeness that neither have acknowledged aloud.

Chicago Med co-showrunner Diane Frolov told TV Guide that the love triangle between Dr. Blake, Marcel, and Avery is going to be a core subplot when the show returns in January 2022. “It’s a bit of a triangle for him there with Avery, and it’s awkward, right? Dr. Blake does not know anything about him having gone out with Avery”, she noted. “So that’s awkward. We’re going to continue playing that.”

Frolov goes on to say that Dr. Blake’s comments about it being an isolated incident are untrue. “I mean, at the end of this episode, she makes it clear that this is a one-time event, but…” before fellow showrunner Andrew Schneider adds, “She doesn’t mean it.”

These quotes seem to confirm that Marcel and Blake are going to be romantically involved moving forward. Not only are they going to have to deal with the repercussions of Marcel’s already tricky relationship with Blake’s daughter, but the professional minefield that has to be walked through when one dates a superior.

The developments in the relationship between Marcel and Blake is something of a shocker, give that they started things off under dubious circumstances. Blake tried to supersede Marcel’s rank as a surgeon, and to make matters even stranger in retrospect, the person in need of surgery was Avery.

We’ve no clue where Marcel and Blake’s romance will go for the duration of season 7, but it’s clear the two have an intense professional and physical chemistry that will make for sure riveting drama.
