Will Burgess ever learn the truth about Roy on Chicago PD?

Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) entered Chicago PD season 9 at a low point. The officer was critically wounded and nearly lost her life after a run-in with the criminal Roy Walton (Michael Maize). She thankfully survived, and Roy paid with his life after Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) shot him in self-defense.

Of course, Upton would not have had to shoot Roy had Voight not found him, taken him to an abandoned area, and beat him senseless. The unsavory circumstances of Roy’s death led the duo to cover it up, and while it nearly cost them their jobs and their freedom, they pulled it off.

The big question heading into the back end of season 9 is whether Upton will ever be made aware of what happened to her attacker.

Is Burgess going to find out what happened to Roy?

Spiridakos discussed the troubling dynamic between her character and Burgess during a recent interview with TV Insider. She voiced a desire to breach the secret, but noted that doing so could jeopardize the risks that she, Voight, and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) have already taken.

"“I really want to, and I’m not sure. We’re only on Episode 13 right now, so I’m not sure what’s coming up, but I would really love that”, the actress said. “We had that moment in the hospital.”"

Soffer also weighed in on the decision to keep the truth from Burgess. “There’s a lot in there”, the actor explained. “That’s a really intense dynamic to see play out, for Burgess to find out. That’s something that the writers have in their back pocket for one day if they want.”

Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan has teased an additional focus on Burgess for the rest of season 10, which could provide the ample screen time to unpack all of the tricky emotions that would come with discovering Upton’s secret. The sense of betrayal Burgess would feel would be immense, and cause even more issues for an already splintering IU.

Of course, Roy’s fate isn’t the only aspect of Burgess’ life that she has to worry about. It’s been confirmed that she and Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) are going to run into personal issues as they continue to question the role they play in each other’s lives.
