Noah Sexton (Roland Buck III) played a minor yet notable role in Chicago Med. The former medical student was perhaps best known for being the younger brother of April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta). He quickly proved himself to be a troubled character, however, and his dynamic with his sister led to some unexpected drama in the ED.

Noah appeared in the first six seasons of Chicago Med, and while he was never part of the main cast, his tenure as a recurring player made him a familiar face to viewers. His absence is made all the more notable because of this, and some may wonder what happened. Where did the younger Sexton go?

Here’s a rundown of Noah’s history in the ED and why he’s longer on the show.

Is Noah Sexton coming back to Chicago Med?

Noah’s parents insisted he should be a doctor when he’s younger, but he didn’t  showcase the natural talent that they anticipated, and he struggled to make it through medical school.

April helped him study and get through his courses, as evidenced by the season 1 episode “Malignant” in which she cancels her date with Chicago Fire‘s Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) to help him prepare for an exam.

Noah improves in his studies over the course of the show, but his career at the ED came to a head in the season 6 episode “When Your Heart Rules Your Head”. He was tasked with treating a doctor who was suffering from, and who asked for assistance in committing suicide. Noah’s solution was to provide the doctor with a syringe full of drugs and then turn his back on him, and once Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) found out, he fired Noah on the spot.

Dr. Choi tried to strip away Noah’s medical license, but the latter was ultimately left with his medical license intact, so he could pursue residency elsewhere. Showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov teased the possibility of a reconciliation between Noah and April during a 2021 interview with CinemaBlend, but the departure of Yaya DaCosta makes this reunion unlikely, at least in the immediate future.

It’s possible that Noah will return to Chicago Med at some point down the line, but given that April, his strongest connection to the ED, is gone, his involvement feels less essential. It’ll be interesting to see how the writers incorporate him if they decide to do so.
