It’s been an interesting season for fans of Miranda Rae Mayo‘s newly minted lieutenant Stella Kidd. Just as season 10 began, Kidd left town to help start up a new Girls on Fire program which quickly turned into programs with Kidd extending her furlough to set up more programs than she initially set out to help launch.

While this was all fine and dandy, we never got to actually see her setting these programs up with Kidd basically going MIA during the better part of the fall’s episodes. The only updates we received about her came via brief one-off lines from other characters when they’d mention her in conversation.

Leading up to the finale, it was teased Kidd would finally be returning before the series signed off for its holiday break which led many to believe she’d be featured prominently in the episode. Instead, Kidd made a cameo in the final moments of the episode in a moment that left fans with more questions than answers.

Is Kidd back for good on Chicago Fire?

Kidd finally returned in the Chicago Fire fall finale, but her return was far from grand with Kidd making a brief appearance at the end of the episode where she greeted a surprised Severide (Taylor Kinney) in their apartment.

Fast forward to the winter premiere and Kidd officially returned to Chicago Fire in a more regular capacity giving fans the chance to finally see Kidd own up to her disappearance and settle back into 51 after being away for weeks.

Now that Kidd is back, she and Severide have a lot to work through and it’s also going to likely take Kidd some getting used to the changes that have occurred at 51 in her absence but will she actually be sticking around for good or could we see Kidd leave town unexpectedly again soon?

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Derek Haas confirmed Kidd is “back for good,” while also teasing her return will bring with it a wave of questions from those closest to her and see the upcoming episodes exploring what her return to 51 will mean.

"“Yes, she’s back for good, but she has a lot of explaining to do, and it’s not just explaining to Boden why she didn’t immediately come back when she heard that Casey was leaving and more or less planted a flag on Truck 81, but also why she went dark on Kelly when he was obviously trying to reach her and had her best interest in mind,” Haas teased. “The next batch of episodes, certainly, the driving force of them will be Stella Kidd’s return to Firehouse 51 and all the offshoots of that.”"

Clearly, the writers have big plans for Kidd in the upcoming episodes and it seems safe to assume fans can finally rest at ease in knowing Kidd won’t be going anywhere and is back for good!
