Chicago PD is being put on hold. Deadline reports that the procedural drama is halting production due to a slew of positive COVID tests; making it the second One Chicago series to succumb to COVID in recent weeks following Chicago Fire.

There has been extensive testing on the set of the Chicago PD, and the reported first wave of tests led to a replacement crew being brought in to help complete episodes that were underway. As the number of positive tests increased, however, NBCU decided to suspend production for the several days.

Is Chicago PD season 9 cancelled?

While specific names were not mentioned by the outlet, Deadline did allude to the fact that the positive tests extended to Zone A, which means crew and cast members alike were impacted. Production should resume by the end of the week, barring any serious developments or setbacks regarding safety guidelines.

As was previously mentioned, Chicago PD is the second One Chicago project to halt production, with Chicago Fire doing the same last week. The latter is slated to resume production on January 14. Interestingly, there has been no mention of positive COVID tests on the set of Chicago Med, nor of plans to halt production. The medical drama has continued to push through with unbroken shoots.

One Chicago is not alone in this approach, however. These two shows join other ratings titans like Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, and NCIS as shows that have been forced to pause its production for a renewed safety protocol.

The big question, of course, is whether the production delay will affect the rest of Chicago PD‘s ninth season. The season resumed on January 5, 2022, following its holiday hiatus, but is slated to go off the air once more to make room for NBC’s Winter Olympics. It will resume its regularly set timeslot on Wednesday following the Olympics.

Given the additional time Chicago PD will have because of the Olympics, there should be no issues or delays in getting the rest of season 9 completed. It’s unlikely that the couple day delay that’s currently underway would have caused a delay regardless, but the extra wiggle room will all but ensure that fans will get their regularly scheduled programming while the cast and crew ensure their safety.
