Who played Ethan’s dad on Chicago Med?
Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) delved into his past on the latest episode of Chicago Med. On top of having to deal with the lingering effects of his back injury, he was forced to confront his prickly relationship with his father, Patrick Choi.
Patrick Choi is a figure that seems to have crucial insights into Dr. Choi’s personality, and given the difficult attitudes both men have towards one another, the character seems primed to be a prime candidate to return in future episodes.

Who is Patrick Choi on Chicago Med?
Patrick Choi is played by character actor Francois Chau. He’s been a familiar face on both film and TV dating back to his screen debut in 1986. Some of his notable film roles include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991), Point of No Return (1993) and Lethal Weapon 4 (1998). More recently, he played bit parts in 21 & Over (2013) and DC’s Birds of Prey (2020).
It’s to Chau’s credit that none of these significant blockbusters rank near the top of his most iconic parts. He had memorable guest turns on Wiseguy, China Beach, and Baywatch, but a whole legion of fans likely known him as the mysterious Dr. Pierre Chang on ABC’s Lost. Despite being in only 17 episodes, Chau left an indelible impression as the host of the Dharma initiative videos.

Chau has continued to pop up in popular shows across networks. He had guest stints on NCIS, Veronica Mars, and a 2021 episode of The Good Doctor. His last credited film role was as the voice of Wahn in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon.
The actor was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and is of Chinese and Vietnamese descent. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career in the 1980s and has remained there ever since. He has a wife and daughter, though little information has been made available about either.
We’re curious to see how Chau’s character factors into the ongoing Dr. Choi subplot of Chicago Med, and given the electric chemistry the pair displayed in their first episode together, we hope to see more of him.
