Chicago Fire season 10 won’t return until late February 2022
Chicago Fire has packed plenty of heat into the last few episodes. There’s been the return of Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), the tricky machinations of her relationship with Severide (Taylor Kinney), and the turmoil surrounding the promotion of Pelham (Brett Dalton) to 51 lieutenant.
That being said, the dramatic stakes are going to be put on hold. Chicago Fire is going on hiatus for a couple weeks in order to make space for the Winter Olympics. Once it returns, it will air without major interruptions for the rest of season 10.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of Chicago Fire and the show’s upcoming schedule.
When is Chicago Fire coming back?
The latest episode, titled “Show of Force”, aired on January 19, and will be the final episode to air in January 2022. NBC will air reruns of earlier season 10 episodes for the next several weeks, and the timeslot is going to be occupied by the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Given the rollout of reruns in the next two weeks, some might be curious as to why NBC doesn’t air new episodes until right before the Winter Olympics. It likely has to do with the allotment of production time that Chicago Fire has to work with.
Chicago Fire was recently forced to shut down production due to a string of positive COVID tests. There were reports from Deadline that Camp A tests surfaced, which means that cast members were among those who were affected. While the production halt only lasted a couple days, the two week gap will allow the showrunners and producers to stay ahead of the episode rollout.

NBC doled out a similar schedule in 2018, which was the last time the network hosted the Winter Olympics. Sitcoms and procedural dramas were removed from their normal timeslots during the Olympics, and returned the following week with brand new episodes.
Initially, there was uncertainty over how long Chicago Fire will be gone, and whether the hiatus will extend into March. Fortunately, the promos following the January 19 episode confirmed that Fire and the other One Chicago shows will return on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
