We’re entering the second half of Chicago Med season 7, and the conclusion of any season brings about discussions of the show’s future. The medical drama has been an NBC staple alongside the other shows in the One Chicago universe, and fans are curious about its potential for renewal.

Networks typically reserve renewal announcements for the period between January and May, so the next several months are going to be thrilling for some fans and heartbreaking for others. The concern, of course, is that you’ll land in the latter and not the former.

Here’s what you need to know about Chicago Med and its renewal status for the 2022/2023 season.

Is Chicago Med coming back for season 8?

Fans can rest easy. Chicago Med, along with Chicago Fire and PD, have already been renewed into the 2023 season. NBC announced a three-season extension for all three shows back in 2020, with the possibility that each could air well past the 2023 season. As of right now, Chicago Med is going to be guaranteed an eighth season no matter what else happens.

Chicago Med has seemingly been the most fortunate of the One Chicago titles. It was the only one that wasn’t forced to halt production in recent weeks over positive COVID tests, and has not had to do so since NBC resumed production back in 2020.

Chicago Med has also introduced the highest number of new characters, including Dr. Scott (Guy Lockard) and Dr. Hammer (Kristen Hager), both of whom have become crucial parts of the show and will inevitably play big roles in the One Chicago crossover.

It’s not yet clear whether a crossover event is planned for the 2022/2023 season, but Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas has admitted that plans for a crossover event during the current season were put on hold due to COVID. With that in mind, its very likely we could see all three shows join forces for the first time since 2019.
