Who plays Kelly Severide on Chicago Fire?
Kelly Severide is the anchor of Chicago Fire. He’s been one of two protagonists to lead the show from its pilot; and the other, Casey (Jesse Spencer), recently exited, which makes Severide’s role all the more crucial.
As both leader and mentor, Severide is arguably the most skilled firefighter in the 51. He always knows what to do, and, as evidenced by his relationship with Wendy Seager (Andy Allo), he has a natural gift for arson investigation.
That being said, there are some newcomers to the One Chicago universe who may not know the man behind the character. Here’s a rundown of the actor who plays the one, the only, Severide.
Chicago Fire season 10 cast
Severide is played by Taylor Kinney. The actor already had six years of work under his belt by the time Chicago Fire aired, and was perhaps best known for his role on The Vampire Diaries. He had guest spots on shows like CSI: NY and Shameless, but Fire gave him a chance to display his talents in a leading man capacity.
Kinney was nominated for three consecutive People’s Choice Awards in 2015-17, and took home the prize in 2016. He’s also appeared in the music video for the Lady Gaga single “You and I”. Gaga and Kinney began dating in 2011 and announced their engagement in 2015, but they called it off the following year.

In addition to starring in nearly every episode of Chicago Fire, Kinney has racked up numerous cameos in the other One Chicago titles. He’s appeared in eight episodes of Chicago Med and ten episodes of Chicago PD, making him one of the most recognizable faces in the entire franchise.
As far as the character’s future is concerned, Kinney couldn’t be more excited. “He doesn’t spend a lot of time in the rearview, there’s always something going on”, he told the Hollywood Outbreak. “There’s always something he’s working on and he loves his trade. I don’t think there’s a lack of stories to tell with this character. He’s a resilient guy.”
