Chicago Fire is and always will be the centerpiece of the One Chicago universe. It was the first show in the franchise, and its plots have served as the basis for several of the franchise’s big crossover events.

Given Fire‘s longevity, there are some fans who question how long the show has been on the air. We’ve seen the arrival and exit of dozens of characters, as well as the devastating death of some of the 51’s most beloved firefighters.

Here’s a rundown of how many Chicago Fire seasons there have been, and how many are slated for the future.

How many episodes of Chicago Fire are there?

Chicago Fire is currently airing its tenth season. There have been 207 episodes that have aired to date, with an average of 22-23 episodes per season. The pilot premiered on October 10, 2012, and has been a staple of NBC’s Wednesday night lineup ever since.

The first season aired a whopping 24 episodes, which remains the highest episode count for a single season to date. The season with the lowest count was season 9, which aired 16 episodes due to various COVID-related setbacks.

In addition to the 207 official episodes, Fire has had storylines that extend into Chicago Med and PD, and involve the main cast. There was also the limited series Chicago Fire: I Am a Firefighter, which aired online in 2014 and followed the character Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) as she prepared for the next step in her training.

Chicago Fire has already been approved for an eleventh season by NBC. There’s not yet been word on whether the show will continue past season 11, but the showrunners and producers have not stated any plans to end things anytime soon.

Given the continued success of the show, its likely that NBC will renew the show with a bulk order of several additional seasons, as they did last time (and have done with Med and PD). There’s tons of old episodes to binge in the meantime!
